In 1984, the world is divided into three major global powers which are too big to be conquered but still at never ceasing war with each other. London is a grim city in the totalitarian state of Oceania. Big Brother is always watching you and the Thought Police can read your mind.
Winston Smith works for the Ministry of Truth. His job is to redact the truth and replace it with fiction as ordered by the powers that may be. But unfortunately, his memory still works. He remembers what the truth is.
This knowledge of truth draws him to The Brotherhood, the secret revolutionary organisation preparing to upset the party.
But, will he survive to see the day?
Rating
Yellow. The book is brilliant in many ways - the story, the imagined world, the underlying philosophical implications and use of metaphorical tact. However, the anti-socialist propaganda is just too much in your face and becomes repetitive and boring after a point.
